{"id":9521,"date":"2024-11-19T15:13:53","date_gmt":"2024-11-19T15:13:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/en\/?post_type=america&#038;p=9521"},"modified":"2024-11-19T15:13:54","modified_gmt":"2024-11-19T15:13:54","slug":"mlbpa-asks-court-to-confirm-sanctions-against-player-agents","status":"publish","type":"america","link":"https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/en\/america\/mlbpa-asks-court-to-confirm-sanctions-against-player-agents\/","title":{"rendered":"MLBPA Asks Court to Confirm Sanctions Against Player Agents"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Major League Baseball Players\u2019 Association petitioned a New York trial court last week to confirm an arbitration award against Rimas Sports executives in a move that draws attention to the competitive, if not cutthroat, world of player agents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4d0WZjXrn98&amp;t=29s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/assets\/feria24\/ice-london-termino-y-se-despidio-la-feria-en-imagenes-mgl.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/america\/mlbpa-sues-draftkings-fanduel-over-nil-use\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MLBPA<\/a> found that agent William Arroyo and two prospective agents, Noah Assad and Jonathan Miranda, violated MLBPA regulations that prohibit inducements and compel cooperation with MLBPA investigations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/assets\/international\/mlbpa-asks-court-to-confirm-sanctions-against-player-agents2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Evidence indicated they provided assorted items\u2014including tickets to concerts and NBA games, complimentary transportation, free lodging and even loans\u2014to induce players to join the Puerto Rico-based Rimas Sports, which is backed by music artist Bad Bunny and has represented Ronny Mauricio, Wilmer Flores and Santiago Espinal and other players since launching last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/assets\/international\/mlbpa-asks-court-to-confirm-sanctions-against-player-agents3.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The agents were also accused of trying to obstruct MLBPA\u2019s investigation by providing misleading responses and refusing to turn over documents and text messages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/assets\/international\/mlbpa-asks-court-to-confirm-sanctions-against-player-agents4.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In April, MLBPA imposed a $400,000 fine, revoked Arroyo\u2019s agent certification, barred Arroyo from reapplying for five years, denied agent certification for Assad and Miranda and banned them from reapplying for five years. The trio invoked their right under MLBPA regulations to appeal the discipline to a neutral arbitrator. Arbitrator Ruth M. Moscovitch presided over a handful of hearings during September and October.
