{"id":8329,"date":"2022-12-13T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-12-13T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/en\/asia\/macau-operators-to-set-up-foreigner-only-gaming-rooms-in-exchange-for-tax-reduction\/"},"modified":"2022-12-13T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2022-12-13T00:00:00","slug":"macau-operators-to-set-up-foreigner-only-gaming-rooms-in-exchange-for-tax-reduction","status":"publish","type":"asia","link":"https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/en\/asia\/macau-operators-to-set-up-foreigner-only-gaming-rooms-in-exchange-for-tax-reduction\/","title":{"rendered":"Macau operators to set up foreigner-only gaming rooms in exchange for tax reduction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">The measure was announced by Macau&rsquo;s Executive Council and described as a further incentive for the concessionaires to attract foreign punters.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:x-large\">The rooms will be reserved for foreign players only, with those from all Chinese territories not allowed entry &ndash; this includes Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland China.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">The overall gaming tax in place on operators will continue at 40 percent, 35 of which is a direct tax on gaming revenues, with another five percent in contributions which are then used for social and educational purposes.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:x-large\">Macau&rsquo;s gaming concessionaires will be allowed to create foreigner-only gaming rooms and chips and be eligible for a waiver on the five percent tax on the revenue generated by the foreigner-only gaming rooms.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">The measure would come into effect on January 1<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#000000\"><sup><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">st<\/span><\/span><\/sup><\/span><span style=\"color:#000000\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">, when the new six gaming concessions also come into effect, and will be subject to an administrative regulation to be published in Macau&rsquo;s Official Gazette.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">The foreigners would still be allowed to gamble in all other casino areas, with expectations that the foreigner-only zones will be largely for concessionaires to bring in their own clients, through promotion offices set up outside Macau.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">The Secretary noted that the foreigner-only rooms would function &ldquo;like a VIP room, but one just for foreign players.
