{"id":8867,"date":"2024-06-27T13:29:47","date_gmt":"2024-06-27T13:29:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/en\/?post_type=asia&#038;p=8867"},"modified":"2024-06-27T13:29:48","modified_gmt":"2024-06-27T13:29:48","slug":"singapore-distrusts-online-casinos-and-sees-more-possibilities-of-money-laundering-than-in-physical-ones","status":"publish","type":"asia","link":"https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/en\/asia\/singapore-distrusts-online-casinos-and-sees-more-possibilities-of-money-laundering-than-in-physical-ones\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00a0Singapore distrusts Online Casinos and sees more possibilities of money laundering than in physical ones."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Singapore authorities have described the threat of money laundering activity taking place through the nation\u2019s land-based casinos as \u201cmoderately high\u201d but said the nature of gaming means the casinos are likely seen as a less attractive option to criminals than other sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4d0WZjXrn98&amp;t=29s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/assets\/feria24\/ice-london-termino-y-se-despidio-la-feria-en-imagenes-mgl.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The nature of Singapore\u2019s money laundering threats was outlined in a new report jointly released by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Law and the Monetary Authority of Singapore last week, which also found that online gambling gives greater cause for concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/assets\/international\/singapore-distrusts-online-casinos-and-sees-more-possibilities-of-money-laundering-than-in-physical-ones2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>Despite strict laws and regulations against online gambling, and multi-pronged enforcement actions, syndicates are still able to conduct illegal online gambling activities due to the ease of setting up or shutting down of an illegal online gambling site,\u201d<\/em> it says. \u201cThe ability to host these illicit websites outside of Singapore makes clamping down on illegal gambling a challenge for law enforcement agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSyndicates are also able to use alternative payment methods such as cryptocurrencies and illegal payment platforms which make the detection of suspicious transactions or money tracing difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the report, foreign fraud, and particularly cyber fraud, pose some of the greatest money laundering threats in Singapore.
