The online betting bill (<strong>Bolet\u00edn 14.838-03<\/strong>) entered Congress on <strong>7 March 2022<\/strong> and is currently in the <strong>second constitutional stage<\/strong>. In Senate discussions reported by official channels, the bill was approved \u201cin general\u201d by <strong>27 votes in favour, 3 against and 5 abstentions<\/strong>, and the government has stated the framework aims to protect players\u2014especially minors\u2014ensure transparency of funds, and create a competitive market alongside existing legal formats such as lotteries and horseracing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fiscal upside is explicit: government estimates cited in Senate communications suggest the regime could raise around <strong>CLP 84 billion per year<\/strong> once fully implemented\u2014an argument frequently used to justify moving from a legal \u201cgrey area\u201d to a supervised, tax-paying market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Legal pressure is also part of the backdrop.
