carried out with the Directorate of Casino and Games of Chance, a dependency of said Ministry, during the period 2016-2020, which served the interests<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\"> <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">of the then minister, now under investigation, and which consisted of illegally charging sports benches, lotteries and grocery stores, who had to pay a monthly payment otherwise they would be closed by the Treasury.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">This is established in the search request approved by Judge Kenya Romero at the request of the Special Prosecutor for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (PEPCA), in the so-called Operation Squid, which involves former Ministers of Finance, Donald Guerrero;<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\"> <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">of Public Works, Gonzalo Castillo, and Administrative of the Presidency, Jos&eacute; Ram&oacute;n Peralta, as well as other officials of the past administration of former President Danilo Medina.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">According to the document, the investigated Donald Guerrero used the aforementioned structure composed of the investigated Mimilo Jim&eacute;nez, Fernando Cris&oacute;stomo, Jos&eacute; Arturo Ure&ntilde;a, Jos&eacute; Pablo Ortiz Giraldo, through the Directorate of Casino and Games of Chance, a dependency of the Ministry of Finance in charge of<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\"> <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">regularize and monitor sports benches, lotteries and the use of slot machines.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">He indicates that during the administration of the former Minister of Finance, he had Oscar Arturo Chalas Guerrero as director, who was later replaced by Juli&aacute;n Omar Fernando Figueroa, who were part of the so-called bench project.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\"> <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">Both &#8211; adds PEPCA &#8211; received instructions from Donald Guerrero to make irregular charges to different businesses with games of chance, under the threat of being closed by the Treasury.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">The team, he points out, acted under the direction of the structure led in the operational part by Mimilo Jim&eacute;nez, Jos&eacute; Arturo Ure&ntilde;a, Fernando Cris&oacute;stomo, among others.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">The document details that Jos&eacute; Arturo Ure&ntilde;a introduces Frixo Messina Arvelo to the Corruption structure, which was in charge of the illegal collection of sports benches, lotteries and the use of slot machines within the Directorate of Casino and Games of Chance of the Ministry of Finance.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\"> <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">Messina Arvelo entered from March 4, 2017 until August 8, 2020, holds the position of Operations Manager.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">PEPCA explains that the illegality of this project consisted in the fact that for being part of the structure, supporting it from their functions so that the operations could be carried out against those who did not make payments to the structure.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\"> <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">or violate their Squid<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">The Public Ministry launched Operation Squid on Saturday night, after a complex investigation carried out by the Specialized Prosecutor for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (PEPCA).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,serif\"><span style=\"font-size:large\">In the operation, 40 raids were carried out distributed in the National District, Santo Domingo province, San Pedro de Macor&iacute;s
