The rollout of its new gambling framework is happening alongside stronger anti-money laundering controls and tighter oversight of crypto-assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/landing\/multigame-link\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/multigamelogo.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-70948\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since February 2026, the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland has been implementing the new licensing regime established under the Gambling Regulation Act 2024. Measures already coming into effect include restrictions on the use of credit cards for gambling, stronger controls over player accounts and broader regulatory supervision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, Ireland is reinforcing its anti-money laundering framework. The gambling regulator now has a permanent role within the country\u2019s national AML coordination structure, while crypto-asset service providers are subject to the European MiCAR regime and specific compliance obligations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The key takeaway should not be that Ireland is declaring war on cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The message is different: <strong>payment methods are no longer a secondary issue for gambling regulators.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Crypto-assets, digital wallets and other financial technologies can offer speed and efficiency, but they also raise questions around player identification, source of funds, transaction traceability and the regulator\u2019s ability to supervise activity effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Irish authorities have also acknowledged that the pseudonymous and cross-border nature of certain crypto-assets can create additional challenges when identifying transactions potentially linked to money laundering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/landing\/multigame-link\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"700\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/08\/multigame-diamod-III-700-eng.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9622\" style=\"width:840px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/08\/multigame-diamod-III-700-eng.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/08\/multigame-diamod-III-700-eng-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mundovideo.com.co\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/08\/multigame-diamod-III-700-eng-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Latin America, this debate is only beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An outright ban may be just as shortsighted as unrestricted acceptance.
