Despites the plenty of obstacles the PokerStars Platforms has had along the time in various markets. Nevertheless, the worlds largest poker brand hasn’t stop to look forward for any opportunity they could reach to impact a new market.
They will be entering the Indian market with India licensee Sachiko Gaming Private Ltd, and it´s happening officially on April 17.
"In India, we have entered into an arrangement with a well-established domestic licensed lottery and gaming operator, which will give our brand access to this highly populated market and ability to build awareness for both our PokerStars brand and the game itself. PokerStars has helped to make poker one of the most popular skill-based games in the world and we look forward to Sachiko Gaming introducing the brand into the Indian market,” Rafi Ashkenazi, Chief Executive Officer of the Stars Group said.
However, there appears to be some conflict between different jurisdictions in the country, whether the game of poker is actually considered to be a game of skill. Just recently, Bombay High Court ruled that poker is not a game of skill, dealing a major blow to the status and progress of the game of poker in India.
There has been also some positive progress, after poker pro Muskan Sethi was honored by the Indian President earlier this year as the first Indian woman to play poker professionally.
