Since 2011, the trend of poker rooms in Las Vegas has been one of consolidation. Smaller rooms around the city have closed their doors, while the bigger rooms sustain their business and garner a larger piece of the market.
The trend may slowly be turning in the opposite direction. For the second time since 2017, the Las Vegas Strip is adding a poker room.
The Sahara Las Vegas announced on their Twitter feed last week that they would be opening a brand new seven-table poker room later this month. An official date has not been released.
The Sahara originally closed its 11-table poker room in 2011. The rest of the casino closed a month later, 59 years after its opening in 1952. After a $415 million renovation, it was reopened as the SLS Las Vegas in 2014. The SLS never opened a poker room and switched back to its original name in August 2019.
