Playtika, the Israeli technology company that made its name through a series of highly successful online gambling and gaming titles with hundreds of millions of players, is leveling the latest swing of the layoffs pendulum. The company has confirmed today that it is laying off 15% of its workforce, which in total adds up to 4,000 employees. Chief Executive Robert Antokol announced the layoffs in a letter to all Playtika employees.
“The news I share with you today is difficult, after intense deliberation, we have decided to reduce our workforce by approximately 15%, saying goodbye to wonderful and talented colleagues and friends”
“We will start to hit the middle ground, balancing teams and redeploying talent, eliminating side initiatives and consolidating studios for greater efficiency and a greater focus on optimization.” Antokol added that the company has already stopped production of three games that were in the works.
It's not game over yet, but online gaming will lose a lot more lives in the coming months.
Playtika itself had already laid off 250 workers in May, Electronic Arts is reportedly looking for a buyer, and Unity laid off about 200 people earlier this year, and some believe this is just the beginning.
