1xBet Faces Renewed Global Scrutiny Amid Colombia’s Crackdown on Illegal Gambling

Published date: 2025-02-24

Colombia's gambling regulator, Coljuegos, has intensified its efforts against unauthorized online gambling by blocking 409 websites associated with brands such as 1xBet, 1Win, BBRBET, and Pinnacle. These platforms were operating without the necessary authorization, potentially jeopardizing funds designated for public health and peace initiatives. Marco Emilio Hincapié, president of Coljuegos, emphasized the commitment to combat these illegal operators and warned players about the risks of using unlicensed sites, including potential loss of deposits and exposure to cybercrimes.

This action is part of a broader strategy by Coljuegos, which recently announced the blocking of 10,000 websites and social media profiles promoting illegal betting activities. The regulator collaborates closely with the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications and the National Police to enforce these measures.

1xBet, a Cyprus-based online gambling company, has faced multiple controversies worldwide. In 2019, the UK Gambling Commission revoked its license following allegations of promoting inappropriate content and betting on underage sports.

More recently, investigations revealed that 1xBet allegedly organized live-streamed amateur games involving fake teams and minors as young as 14, raising serious ethical concerns.

Despite these challenges, 1xBet has maintained sponsorship deals with prominent sports organizations, including FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. However, the company's operations have been banned or restricted in several countries due to legal issues and regulatory violations.

Coljuegos' recent actions reflect a global trend of regulators intensifying efforts to curb illegal online gambling and protect consumers from unlicensed operators. As 1xBet continues to face legal challenges and operational bans in various jurisdictions, its future in the global gambling market remains uncertain.
