In March 2024, betting and games of chance began to recover, registering an increase of 2.5% compared to the same period last year; while the sale of chances and lottery tickets decreased by 12.7%, according to the latest report on leisure activities from the National Institute of Statistics and Census of the Comptroller General of the Republic.
Based on the official report, the total of activities such as: racetrack, bingo halls, gaming tables, type “A” slot machines, betting rooms for sporting events and games of luck and chance over the internet, amounted to $87 .6 million, compared to $85.5 million as of March 2023.
The monthly behavior of the current year is $29.7 million in January; about $28.0 million in February and $29.8 million in March, to total $87 million.
Gambling operators reported $1.5 million in racetrack bets; bingo halls, with $241 thousand; the gaming tables, with $6.5 million; type “A” slot machines, with $73.8 million; betting rooms for sporting events, with $1.2 million, games of luck and chance over the internet, with $4.2 million.
Meanwhile, last year (2023) gambling operators reported to the Gaming Control Board (JCJ) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance that: racetrack $1.8 million; the bingo halls, with $279 thousand; gaming tables, with $7.6 million; type “A” slot machines, with $71.2 million; betting rooms for sporting events, with $1.2 million and games of luck and chance over the internet, with $3.2 million.
