Missouri opens public comment on sports betting rules ahead of december launch

Published date: 2025-07-02

The Missouri Gaming Commission (MGC) has officially opened a public comment period for the state’s finalized sports betting regulations, marking a major milestone in the rollout of legalized wagering. Interested parties have until July 16 to submit comments, with a public hearing set for July 17 in Jefferson City.

The comment window follows the MGC’s recent publication of its updated rules, aimed at launching regulated sports betting by December 1, 2025. Industry stakeholders, including casinos, sports teams, and mobile betting operators, are closely watching this stage as they prepare licensing applications.

Missouri opens sports betting license applications today ahead of December 1 market launch

Missouri’s new law allows for up to 14 mobile operators, with provisions for casinos and professional sports franchises to partner with sportsbooks. The state plans to tax gross sports wagering revenue at 10%, channeling funds into education and responsible gaming programs.

Two standalone mobile licenses must be applied for by July 15, while tethered applicants have until September 12. Operators and the public are encouraged to voice feedback now to help shape a regulatory environment that balances competition, consumer protection, and state oversight. The public comment phase is a clear signal that Missouri is gearing up to join the fast-growing U.S. legal betting market.
