Pennsylvania shatters gaming revenue records with historic $600M month

Published date: 2025-06-19

Pennsylvania’s gaming industry just hit a new high score. In May 2025, the state’s total gaming revenue surpassed the $600 million mark for the first time, reaching an impressive $601.8 million, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB). That’s a 15.5% increase compared to the same month last year, solidifying Pennsylvania’s leadership in regulated gambling.

The biggest winner? iGaming. Online casino platforms brought in $232.9 million, up a massive 33.7% year-over-year. The growth reflects not only increased player activity but also a wider range of games and improved digital platforms that continue to attract new users.

Retail slot machines remained a reliable revenue stream, generating $224.9 million, showing a healthy 5.0% gain over May 2024. Table games came in slightly below the previous year, with $79.9 million in revenue, but still contributed significantly to the overall total.

Sports betting also made its mark. With total handle reaching $655.4 million, sportsbooks reported $59.4 million in taxable revenue—an impressive 34.4% increase in revenue from sports wagering compared to the year before.

Across all channels, the month’s revenue haul produced more than $255 million in taxes, helping to fund public services, local programs, and the state’s general fund. The strong figures are the result of a mature market, effective regulation, and strong consumer interest across both online and land-based gaming sectors.

Casinos in Pennsylvania cut slot machines and blame street machines.

PGCB Chair Denise Smyler praised the results, saying the agency remains committed to “expanding gaming opportunities responsibly while ensuring that public interest comes first.”

The new record is more than just a number—it’s a signal. With consistent double-digit growth in iGaming and a rebound in retail activity, Pennsylvania appears to have found the right balance between innovation and regulation. Operators, regulators, and taxpayers alike are reaping the benefits of a thriving and responsible gaming ecosystem.
