Queens, new york – On 25 September 2025, the Queens Community Advisory Committee unanimously endorsed the proposed $5.5 billion expansion of the Resorts World casino complex in Southeast Queens.
The plan includes constructing a 5.6 million square-foot integrated resort featuring 2,000 hotel rooms, a 7,000-seat arena, over 30 dining venues, a day club, spa, and convention center. Pending final state authorization, operations could commence as early as July 2026, generating approximately 24,000 jobs.
Queens borough president Donovan Richards highlighted the approval’s impact: “With this expansion, Resorts World will strengthen its role as a responsible community partner and a major economic engine for Southern Queens.” State senator James Sanders Jr. added, “This endorsement reflects our trust in Resorts World’s commitment to long-term benefits for our community.”

According to the New York State Gaming Law, commercial casino projects require approval from both the Community Advisory Committee and the State Gaming Commission. The law mandates a thorough review of social impacts, economic viability, responsible gambling measures, and community integration before final licenses are granted. This latest approval brings Resorts World closer to the expected licensing decisions by the end of 2025.

The expansion marks a significant shift in Queens' economic landscape, positioning it as a regional leader in casino and entertainment sectors. The project promises enhanced tourism, infrastructure improvements, and job creation. A dedicated $1.5 billion community benefits package aims to support workforce housing, transit upgrades, and social programs, underscoring its transformative potential.
