Hainan, China has long been a popular tourist destination, annually drawing millions of tourists with its sandy beaches and resorts, but nowadays it needs an economical boost, which will be supported by the government.
During a visit to the southernmost province, President Xi (pictured) revealed that the reform agenda would include setting up a Hainan free trade zone by 2020, a ban on the sales of fossil-fuel vehicles, and development of artificial intelligence and virtual reality. Also, they had announced an expanding gambling plan to the island, including the development of horse racing and of an instant and sports lottery. Leading to an eventually opening of a casino-style gambling in the island.
Gambling is generally banned in China with very few exceptions. Just two types of lotteries are allowed within the country’s borders under current laws. Horse racing is allowed to a limited extent, while the provision of sports betting services is strictly prohibited.
