Half-million visitors set to turn the Macau Grand Prix 2025 into the city’s biggest tourism surge of the decade

Published date: 2025-11-14

Macau is gearing up for one of its biggest tourism surges of the year as officials project that the 2025 Macau Grand Prix will attract around 500,000 visitors during the event period. The estimate comes from Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), who said the race is set to surpass attendance figures from both 2023 and 2024.

The 2025 edition, held in November, will feature the FIA Formula 3 World Cup, the GT World Cup, the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix, and several regional racing categories. The multi-day festival traditionally brings some of the highest hotel occupancy levels in the city, and officials expect rates to climb to 98% during the main race weekend.

Macau has already recorded 24.5 million visitors from January to September 2025, a 28% year-on-year increase, reflecting strong post-pandemic recovery. The Grand Prix is expected to further elevate those numbers, supported by an expanded schedule of flights and ferry services from Hong Kong, Zhuhai and major mainland Chinese cities.

Macau casinos fuel Grand Prix revival with $15 mil...

Economically, the Grand Prix is one of Macau’s most powerful non-gaming drivers. Previous editions generated MOP 1.5 to 2.1 billion (USD 185–265 million) in combined direct and promotional impact. Tourism analysts suggest that the 2025 event could approach MOP 2.3 billion, thanks to higher visitor volume, increased VIP travel and stronger spending across hotels, restaurants and retail.

Casinos are also preparing for a rise in premium-mass and VIP play, as the Grand Prix traditionally boosts table drop, baccarat turnover and high-end entertainment spending. The event aligns with Macau’s “Beyond Gaming” diversification strategy, positioning the city as a regional hub for sports tourism and international events.

With half a million visitors expected and global media coverage across more than two dozen countries, the Macau Grand Prix 2025 is on track to become one of the city’s biggest tourism showcases of the decade.
