During the first 9 months the Macau´s GGR stands at $4.8 billion USD. That’s down 82.5 percent from the same nine months in 2019. The difference is a loss of approximately $22.8 billion. But the six licensed casino operators saw business improve of 66% last month, according to the Macau Gambling Inspection and Coordination Bureau.
The GGR totaled for these casinos was $167 million in August. The enclave’s decision to close its borders as the pandemic developed out of China has been credited for largely keeping Macau free of the virus.
But September marked the resumption of the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) between mainland China and Macau. The permit arrangement allows visitors to come and go to the gambling hub without quarantining on either end, just showing their IVS and a COVID-19 certificate showing they’ve tested negative for the virus within the past seven days.
