Seoul, August 2025 – South Korea will grant visa-free entry to Chinese tour groups from September 29, 2025, through June 2026, in a sweeping measure to boost inbound tourism and stimulate the economy ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju later this year.
The policy marks the first time Seoul has extended visa-free access nationwide for Chinese groups, previously limited to destinations such as Jeju Island. The timing coincides with China’s extended National Day holiday in early October, expected to drive a surge in demand for overseas travel.

Chinese visitors remain South Korea’s largest inbound market, with roughly 2.5 million arrivals in the first half of 2025. Retail, duty-free, hospitality, and gaming sectors are already seeing positive reactions, with shares of department stores, hotels, casinos, and cosmetic brands rising following the announcement.

The initiative will also expand fast-track immigration screening, lowering the requirements for eligibility to include smaller international events and speeding up entry processing at major airports. Officials expect this move to enhance traveler convenience while increasing competitiveness with other Asia-Pacific destinations.

The measure follows China’s earlier decision to allow visa-free travel for South Korean citizens, signaling a renewed focus on strengthening bilateral tourism ties and cultural exchange. As the APEC summit approaches, South Korea aims to showcase its accessibility and hospitality, positioning the country as a prime destination for both leisure and business travel.
