Chile’s regulated casino industry is showing a clear shift in player behaviour: slightly less volume, but more spending per visit. According to data from the Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego (SCJ), the country’s 25 licensed casinos generated around CLP 282,252 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR) in the first half of 2025, a 3.5% real decrease compared to the same period in 2024.
Despite this contraction in overall GGR, player intensity is moving in the opposite direction. Over the same period, casinos recorded 3.3 million visits, with an average spend of CLP 83,344 per visit, a figure that increased slightly in real terms. In other words, fewer trips to the casino, but each visit is becoming more valuable from a revenue standpoint.
For the Chilean state, the sector remains a solid tax contributor. Between January and September 2025, the 22 casinos regulated under Law 19.995 generated CLP 388,096 million in GGR, while the three municipal casinos added another CLP 29,733 million. This translated into CLP 148,100 million in tax contributions, including CLP 64,214 million in the specific gaming tax, CLP 61,965 million in VAT and CLP 21,921 million from entry levies, benefiting both regional governments and municipalities.
The figures suggest a market that is maturing rather than shrinking. Strong regulation, strict licensing and a stable tax framework appear to be encouraging casinos to prioritise higher-value visits and more efficient operations over pure volume. For operators and suppliers looking at Chile, the message is clear: this is a market where quality of spend now matters more than the simple count of admissions.
