In the framework of the commemoration of the International Responsible Gambling Day, celebrated on 17 February, the gaming regulator, Coljuegos, established a series of provisions to consolidate the commitment of the operators of games of chance with responsible gaming.
The president of the body, César Augusto Valencia Galiano, unveiled Resolution 36784 of 2021, which takes actions in terms of promotion and prevention referring, for example, to advertising and training, self-control actions and support for those affected.
The official stated that "operators must adopt advertising pieces that emphasize the restriction of gambling for minors, as well as messages that reiterate that gambling should be done in moderation and as an entertainment option".
Valencia Galiano also stressed that operators will be required to train employees to help identify players who may be engaging in uncontrolled gambling behavior.
"Among the measures contemplated in the resolution is the adoption of a self-diagnosis test to be offered by operators to players in order to establish responsible gambling tools, as well as a self-exclusion form," he added.
At the same time, he explained that comprehensive and up-to-date information should be available from specialised organisations that can provide support to gamblers in need, including treatment centres and health professionals, for which operators will seek to maintain an active dialogue with key stakeholders.
"It should not be forgotten that this sector should be seen as a responsible entertainment activity. We believe that it is essential to grow and be competitive, but with a component of sustainability and corporate social responsibility," concluded the Coljuegos representative
He also highlighted the joint work with the media, social organizations, operators and unions for the joint purpose of protecting the player, guaranteeing the best conditions and accompanying operators in complying with this resolution.
