Colombian regulator Coljuegos leads enforcement push in Antioquia to curb illegal gambling

Published date: 2025-08-01

As part of its national campaign to combat unregulated gambling, Coljuegos, Colombia’s state gambling regulator, held a territorial enforcement session in Bello, Antioquia, aimed at educating local shop owners, authorities, and gaming operators on how to detect and prevent illegal gaming activities.

The session, supported by the National Police and the Bello Mayor’s Office, forms part of a broader legal framework to reduce informality in Colombia’s gambling sector and protect tax revenue earmarked for public health.

During the event, Coljuegos Vice President of Commercial Affairs, Sandra Viviana Rodríguez León, emphasized the value of regulatory education: “These community sessions are essential for protecting resources and fostering a culture of compliance and transparency,” she noted.

Participants received practical tools to identify unauthorized gaming equipment, learned how to report violations, and explored pathways to formalize operations under Colombian law.

The National Police outlined protocols for responding to illegal gaming, while Coljuegos presented an overview of approved gaming products, the legal risks of unauthorized operations, and the compliance channels available to both local vendors and municipalities.

This initiative aligns with Coljuegos' national strategy, which combines regulatory education with enforcement, and promotes the message that “legal gaming pays” — for operators, local economies, and the public health system it helps fund. Coljuegos reaffirmed its commitment to expanding these outreach efforts to more Colombian regions, positioning licensed gaming as a driver of transparency, community development, and social equity.
