The conditions of gambling in Ecuador underwent a change since June 28, 2024, when the Internal Revenue Service of Ecuador reported the establishment of a 15% tax on the profits of gambling platforms operating in the country, regardless of whether they are national or foreign.
It is interesting to note that the text indicates that the new tax would come into effect from July 20 and would affect “sports prediction operators”, within the framework of a recent “Organic Law to strengthen the Family Economy” approved in June 2023. Finally, the authority explained that the new tax is aimed at all betting houses inside or outside Ecuadorian territory and is calculated on the profits received.
In Ecuador, 65 betting companies are responding to the call to pay taxes.
In the case of companies located abroad, the rule establishes the obligation to appoint a representative in the country to deal with these procedures. Current gambling regulations in Ecuador do not allow casinos in the country,
