In a decisive move against unregulated gambling, authorities in Puerto Montt have closed one of the city’s largest illegal casinos. The establishment, located at Urmeneta 465 in the city center, was found operating more than 50 slot machines without the required municipal license.
The closure was executed by Carabineros de Chile in coordination with local public safety officials. According to municipal sources, this is the first in a series of planned enforcement actions aimed at reclaiming public order and ensuring legal compliance in the urban gaming environment.

Mayor Rodrigo Wainraihgt stated that the operation aligns with a broader public security policy: “We are taking firm measures to eliminate illegal gaming operations that contribute to insecurity and disorder in the city.”

The crackdown follows multiple legal complaints filed by formal gaming operators, who claim that unlicensed casinos foster tax evasion and facilitate money laundering. Business associations have also raised concerns about the proliferation of unauthorized gaming centers affecting the regulated industry.
