The igambling industry is on the rise worldwide and in Colombia the pandemic increased the number of gamers to 2.1 million people. The quarantine significantly reduced activities on the streets and in public places, and in turn boosted technology and home entertainment plans.
Thanks to the fact that the gaming world is the combination of these two elements, it was one of the few industries that presented accelerated growth during the pandemic. The research and Big Data company, Sinnetic, published a study on gaming in Colombia and one of its main findings was that before the quarantine there were 1.8 million active gamers in the country and since March the figure rose to 2, 1 million.
In addition, the entertainment segment generated annual earnings in Colombia of US $ 51 million.
The five main cities of the country the penetration of consoles for this activity had an increase of two percentage points so far in 2020. The culture of cell phone and gaming is gaining more ground in the hobbies of Colombians of all ages. 69.1% of Colombian adults play on their cell phone. The minority is above 45 years old with a representation of 16.7%. Regarding gender, both men and women play, with a slight male majority.
For its part, a profile of the Colombian gamer, in which 20% of the players are between 18 and 24 years old; 26% are exploring new games; 79% of those surveyed play to relax, and 44% of gamers play every day.
10.4% spend less than an hour on the cell phone screen; another 22.4% between one and three hours; 22.9% between three and five hours, and about 44.3% more than five hours. The data, its reception in audiences of all ages, professions and nationalities, and its innovation and investment at a global level makes this an industry on the rise.
