Despite the war, Russia’s legal gambling zones forecast over 100,000 visitors in May

Published date: 2025-04-30

Russia’s legal casino zones are preparing for a surge in tourism during the May 2025 holiday season, with combined forecasts exceeding 100,000 visitors. This would surpass the 95,800 guests registered during the same period in 2024, according to data reported by Kommersant.

Despite the ongoing war and persistent economic uncertainty, the Association of Entertainment and Event Tourism Operators — which represents all four legal gambling zones in Russia — projects steady growth. Analysts attribute the expected rise in visitor numbers to the convergence of Labor Day and Victory Day celebrations, coupled with extended corporate vacations granted to employees.

  • Sobranie Casino – Yantarnaya Zone (Kaliningrad):

Sobranie forecasts approximately 20,000 visitors, reflecting a 25 percent increase compared to 2024. The casino will host an international poker tournament in early May and several entertainment events intended to broaden its appeal.

  • Altai Palace – Siberian Coin Zone (Altai Krai):

Altai Palace expects a 10 percent increase in visitor numbers. To attract a broader demographic, it has expanded non-gaming amenities by introducing heated outdoor swimming pools. Additional plans include the construction of two hotels and winter sports facilities, with a projected completion date of 2027.

  • Krasnaya Polyana – Sochi Zone:

Krasnaya Polyana anticipates maintaining last year’s attendance, around 35,000 visitors. The resort will focus on non-gaming events, including gastronomic festivals, concerts, and themed cultural activities during May.

The Yantarnaya Zone has announced a 22.6 billion ruble (approximately 274 million USD) expansion project, extending its infrastructure into the nearby village of Kulikovo. The development aims to enhance Kaliningrad’s profile as a major entertainment destination.

While broader Russian tourism has faced significant challenges, the country’s gambling zones are leveraging diversification strategies to sustain growth. Operators emphasize that expanding non-gaming facilities remains key to ensuring resilience amid ongoing global instability.
