Europe taking action to control skins bets

Skin betting is a method of wagering a game’s purchasable add-ons, primarily virtual weapons, on the outcome of the game itself. This part of the gambling industry has started to be control around Europe but not in all the countries there is the existence of a proper organ to control this "sub-industry" in the gambling world.

In that order, Norway has started to take actions but purely by the state, The NGA (Norwegian Gaming Authority) at the moment is not able to deliver legal licenses for the operators interested in the subject, but will start controlling and sanctioning operators who offer skin betting services, and will begin to crackdown on unauthorized skin betting operators of video games and casino platforms.

According to the current law, skin betting is part of gambling and must be regulated by a governing body.

A representative of the NGA stated: “Skins can normally not be exchanged for cash, but it is possible to take the skins out of the game and of other markets for buying and selling. There are separate online casinos where you can bet and win skins, and in such cases, skins a virtual currency that can be used for gambling. We have seen several examples of Norwegian children and young people who have spent thousands of money from this,”

In Norway the only casino allowed to offer online casino services, that in terms of Norwegian laws is every site or "gaming site that allows betting's and pays out prizes in skins". The strict answer of the country is due to their priority of their population specifically their children's and young's who are the one that access the most to this skins games, therefore the NGA representative stated they will "examine the issues surrounding gambling with skins, and consider sanctions against operators who offer this in Norway.”
