France Takes Action to Protect Gamblers: New Harm Reduction Plans Approved

Published date: 2025-04-04

France is intensifying its efforts to combat problem gambling with the recent approval of new harm reduction action plans by its gaming regulator, l'Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ). This move comes as online gambling continues to rise across Europe, leading to increased concern about excessive gambling behaviors.

The newly approved plans require all gambling operators, both online and land-based, to enhance their systems for identifying players at risk. Key measures include improved monitoring of gambling patterns and early interventions at points of sale. Specifically, the ANJ has set a target for 203 casinos operating in France to implement more effective tools to detect and support problem gamblers.

One of the more prominent actions involves ensuring operators implement individualized care and support measures for high-risk players. In particular, players engaged in live betting or fast-paced poker tournaments will be closely monitored.

Since the introduction of these measures, the ANJ has already seen a 20% improvement in compliance across land-based casinos. This initiative is part of France's broader strategy to curb problem gambling and better protect consumers within the growing gambling market.

The French government's new regulatory actions are a vital step in safeguarding players, and it sets a strong example for other European nations to follow as they face similar challenges in the gaming industry.
