Spain’s online gambling market tops €1.7bn as casino extends its lead

Published date: 2026-03-17

Spain’s regulated online gambling market closed 2025 at a new high, confirming the country’s position as one of Europe’s most mature digital gaming jurisdictions. According to annual market data cited from Spain’s gambling regulator, the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ), licensed operators generated €1.70055 billion in gross gaming revenue (GGR) in 2025, up 16.99% from the previous year.

The growth was not limited to headline revenue. Player deposits climbed to €4.32246 billion, while withdrawals reached €3.01363 billion, showing a clear rise in user activity and money flows across regulated platforms. The strongest engine remained the online casino segment, which produced €893 million, or 52.51% of total GGR. Within casino, slots accounted for 69.11% of revenue and posted 30.78% annual growth, while live roulette also advanced.

Sports betting remained the market’s second-largest vertical with €698.13 million, equal to 41.05% of total GGR. Poker generated €95.48 million, while bingo contributed €13.94 million, underscoring how heavily Spain’s online market still leans on casino and betting products. That pattern had already been visible in the quarterly reports published during 2025, when casino repeatedly held more than half of market revenue.

Operators also spent more aggressively to compete. Marketing investment reached €664.40 million in 2025, a 25.84% year-on-year increase, with sponsorship showing the sharpest jump. On the player side, active users rose to 2,157,514, while the average monthly active account base approached 1.73 million. Mid-year DGOJ data also showed 77 licensed operators in the market, highlighting the depth of Spain’s regulated ecosystem.

Spain is no longer just a solid regulated market. It is now a scale market, where casino strength, marketing intensity and a large active player base are pushing online gambling deeper into the mainstream.
