Switzerland’s Federal Gaming Commission (SFGB) has officially revoked the license of Casino St. Moritz, bringing an end to the country’s highest-altitude gaming venue after its permanent closure in April.
The St. Moritz property, located in the Engadin Valley, had been forced to shut down when majority shareholder Casinos Austria International withdrew its financial support. Without a new investor stepping in and unable to meet SFGB’s strict equity requirements, the concession was cancelled. That means no chance for a relaunch — land-based or online.
In a related move, Airport Casino Basel AG also lost its online license extension. The operator voluntarily shuttered its platform Goldengrand.ch in late July and waived its right to appeal, prompting the regulator to formally terminate the concession.

Industry analysts warn that these cases send a clear message: operators in Switzerland must demonstrate robust financial backing and long-term stability if they want to keep their licenses in an environment where regulators show zero tolerance for weak balance sheets.
