Young Gamblers Lead the Surge in Denmark’s ROFUS Registrations

Published date: 2025-06-26

Denmark’s self-exclusion system, ROFUS, has reached a significant milestone, recording over 60,000 registered users as of May 2025. The system, managed by the Danish Gambling Authority, allows individuals to voluntarily block access to licensed gambling services both online and in physical venues.

Launched in 2012, ROFUS has grown steadily from its initial 1,456 users. The recent surge in registrations highlights a growing cultural shift toward responsible gambling, particularly among younger players. According to recent data, 58% of male users are under 40, and an overwhelming 96% of users under 20 are male—suggesting that young men are increasingly aware of gambling risks and willing to take preventive action.

The system allows users to choose exclusion periods ranging from 24 hours to six months, or even opt for permanent bans, subject to review after one year. Officials view this flexibility as a key factor in the system’s widespread adoption.

With Denmark’s gambling market showing steady growth, ROFUS stands out as a cornerstone of its responsible gambling framework. The milestone reinforces Denmark’s position as a leader in player protection, offering a model that could inspire similar initiatives across Europe and beyond.
