Ari Engel now stands alone as the all-time World Series of Poker Circuit gold ringleader. The Canadian poker pro was tied with Maurice Hawkins with 15 WSOPC titles to his name thanks to back-to-back victories during the WSOPC Graton Casino stop in Northern California in August.
On Tuesday, Oct. 10 he emerged victorious in the $400 buy-in Omaha eight-or-better event at the WSOPC Horseshoe Hammond festival for his record-setting 16th ring.
“It’s obviously nice to win, but my heart is in Jerusalem right now, so it’s bittersweet. I’ve been playing a lot of these tournaments and it’s definitely better to win them than lose,” Engel told.
He also mentioned the other players near the top of the WSOPC rings leaderboard, saying, “Maurice [Hawkins], Josh [Reichard], and Dan Lowery all have much better ratios when it comes to tournaments played versus rings. I play a lot more than them. They’re records are good and they’re good players.”
