Canada will be going for the online gambling market

In Canada, specially the Ontario government has outlined plans in its 2020-2021 budget to introduce legislation that will end the monopoly on online gambling in the province.

The new legislation would give the Alcohol and Gambling Commission of Ontario (AGCO) “authority to conduct and manage igambling, in addition to having the role of the regulator”.

A subsidiary body would be created to manage the relationship between the government and private licensed operators. While no timeframe has been set for the legislation, legislators said they will “continue consulting with key stakeholders on the design of the igambling market to reflect consumer preferences and foster an exciting gaming experience.”

The government also laid out intentions to approve plans for the legislation of single-event sports betting to facilitate the development of the gambling market.
