United states. Five Maryland casinos have asked the state to allow them reduce the percentage of payments at the slot machines a move that could displace tens of millions of dollars in profits from customers to the casinos, as state records show. Recall that in the United States return rates are regulated by the state, unlike other parts of the world like Colombia, Peru, Chile, Panama and others.
The request was included among a group of casinos recommendations recently submitted to the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency. Under the proposal, the state should be more lax with the requirement that each casino has to pay an average of 90% to 95% of the money bet on their machines in the course of a year. The casinos want to lower the minimum payment to 85 percent, which would increase the "retention" of the casinos.
The state would win because it shares revenue with slot machines of the casinos. Although its popularity has declined in recent years, slot machines generated $ 622 million in the five casinos through the first 11 months of this fiscal year. The largest piece $ 290 million went to the Trust Fund for the Education of Maryland, while casinos took $ 229 million.
Casinos say that the proposal would give them the flexibility to develop innovative slots machines that offers diverse payments. The proposal "allows the customer more competitive offers", wrote the casinos in a memo to the agency.
