New Jersey posts $559.1m in January for total gaming revenue

Sports wagering gross revenue increased by 136.1%.

New Jersey has posted its gaming revenue numbers for January, showing overall growth despite a decrease in in-person revenue from casinos.

Casino win

While it was a positive month for the Garden State, casino win fell during the opening month of 2024. For the nine casino hotel properties, casino win was valued at $205m, representing a decrease of 3.1% when compared to the same period last year.  Looking on an individual basis, Harrah’s saw the largest decrease in casino win within the state, seeing a 20.9% fall in its numbers to $15.9m. Though the Borgata brought in the largest casino win at $57.6m, this was still a decline of 1.2% for the resort when compared to the year prior.

Sports wagering gross revenue.

Sports wagering gross revenue saw a significant increase, rising by 136.1% to $170.8m in January, with five of the reported casinos seeing growth of over 200%, including Harrah’s whose revenue from the sector went up by 679.6% to $418,378.

Internet gaming win

Internet gaming win reported by the casinos and their partners was less significant than the previous metric in terms of growth, making $183.3m. This reflects an increase of 19.9% when compared to the $152.9m reported in January 2023.

Total gaming revenue.

Overall and as a result of a generally positive set of results, total gaming revenue also grew, being valued at $559.1m for January 2024. This is a year-over-year increase of 28%.  In other news within the state, the New Jersey State Senate has received a new bill that would permit smoking in the state’s casinos “with some restrictions.”
