Macau is not just betting on tables and reels—it’s playing for pole position in global mobility governance. The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has confirmed that its Annual Conference will remain in Macau through 2027, solidifying the city’s dual status as both a gaming capital and a rising player in international transport policy.
The announcement came during the FIA’s 2025 Extraordinary General Assemblies and Conference, held from June 10 to 12 at the Galaxy International Convention Center. With 446 delegates representing 198 organizations from 139 countries, the event focused on road safety, sustainable urban mobility, motorsport innovation, and digital transformation.

In a move signaling deepening ties, Galaxy Macau was officially named an FIA global partner. The luxurious integrated resort will host future FIA conferences in 2026 and 2027. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem praised the venue’s infrastructure, calling it “a world-class base for FIA’s global mission” in both sport and mobility.

This partnership marks a strategic expansion for Macau beyond gaming. While the city remains synonymous with casino revenue—posting strong recovery figures in 2025—it is increasingly becoming a venue for high-level policy dialogue and cross-sector innovation.
The World Council for Automobile Mobility and Tourism, also meeting in Macau, outlined plans to support member clubs with new tools for road safety, data-driven urban mobility, and smarter city infrastructure. These priorities align well with the technological and hospitality assets offered by Macau’s gaming sector, particularly integrated resorts capable of hosting large-scale, international events.

However, the backdrop was not without tension. Just prior to the event, governance concerns were raised regarding proposed FIA statute amendments, prompting calls for delay from several national automobile clubs. Despite this, the assembly proceeded, and the vote was held.
F1 takes pole position in the betting grid
With its future FIA commitments secured, Macau reinforces its unique status as a city where high-stakes gaming and global governance now intersect—raising the bar for what it means to host the future.
