According to the Colombian laws, the gambling operators have a lapse of 30 days to make the delivery of the prize to the respective winner. However, many of these do not find out they have been the winners or simply are not present to claim it, so, what happens there?
One year is the grace period granted by law to any participant and winner of gambling games to claim their money, who claim it must keep the document received at the time he/she participated, and which makes it worthy of the prize drawn. (READ HERE: PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES AND RAFFLES SHOULD NOT INCLUDE BETTING ON SPORTING EVENTS)
This is a repetitive situation in the Colombian market, where millions of winners do not claim their prizes, due to many of them think they cannot do it once those 30 days have passed since the draw.
On the contrary, the national law grants the Colombian winner of all gambling games a grace of ONE YEAR to claim his money, if he does NOT this prize will be distributed as follows:
- 75% of the money goes to finance health
- The remaining 25% is used by Coljuegos to control illegal gambling.
In 2017, more than 15,000 million COP were accumulated in games without being claimed by Colombian winners, but they are not "lost" instead are used for the welfare of all.
