Britain’s regulated gambling market reached £17.46 billion in Gross Gambling Yield (GGY) during the April 2025-March 2026 financial year, representing 4.4% year-on-year growth, driven primarily by online casino activity, according to statistics published on September 17, 2026 by the UK Gambling Commission.
The Remote Casino, Betting and Bingo segment generated £8.3 billion, up 6.9%, with online casino contributing £5.7 billion. Of that amount, £4.8 billion came from slots, making them the main growth driver across the market.
Online betting produced £2.4 billion, including approximately £1.2 billion from football and £769.3 million from horse racing, while remote bingo generated £147.8 million. The land-based market increased only 1.1% to around £4.9 billion. Betting shops recorded £2.4 billion, down 3.3%, while their number fell 3.6% to 5,617 premises, marking the twelfth consecutive decline. Land-based casinos generated £933.9 million, up 0.4%, divided between £695 million from casino games and £238.9 million from machines.
Land-based bingo reached £703.8 million, up 8.2%, while arcades grew 10.7% to £800.1 million. Gaming machines generated £2.7 billion, up 4.3%, with 191,804 machines recorded at the end of the period. Lotteries contributed around £4.3 billion in GGY. The National Lottery recorded £7.9 billion in ticket sales, paid £4.5 billion in prizes and contributed around £1.7 billion to Good Causes.
The Gambling Commission recorded 2,154 operators, 3,097 licensed activities and 8,081 premises. As of September 2026, Sarah Gardner is Acting Chief Executive, Charles Counsell OBE serves as Interim Chair until September 30, and Ruth Evans will officially take over as Chair from that date.
