South Korea’s Kangwon Land Casino is raising the stakes—literally. In a strategic move to attract high-rolling clientele, the casino has received government approval to significantly increase betting limits across its gaming tables.
Effective May 21, 2025, minimum bets on two blackjack tables have tripled from KRW100,000 (approximately $72) to KRW300,000 ($215). Similarly, two Texas Hold’em poker tables will see their minimum bets rise to KRW300,000 in early June. VIP baccarat tables have also experienced a substantial hike, with minimum bets soaring from KRW50,000 ($36) to KRW500,000 ($358), and the maximum differential between “banker” and “player” bets increasing from KRW2 million ($1,438) to KRW30 million ($21,570).
South Korea needs a policy “white paper” on the role and future of its own casino industry.
These adjustments are part of Kangwon Land’s broader strategy to enhance its appeal to high-stakes gamblers and international visitors. The casino has also introduced a “foreigner-only” gaming zone, where betting limits have escalated dramatically—from KRW100,000 to KRW20 million ($14,380)—with plans to further increase the cap to KRW300 million ($215,700).

Kangwon Land’s aggressive expansion includes a $1.9 billion master plan featuring a second casino, new hotel accommodations, and various leisure facilities.
