Commercial casinos in Maryland and Ohio generated more than US$242 million in combined revenue in their latest reports, although the two markets moved in different directions: Maryland posted a 4.7% year-on-year decline in July 2026, while Ohio’s four casinos increased June revenue by 3% to US$84.9 million.
Maryland’s six casinos generated US$157.9 million in July exclusively from slot machines and table games, compared with US$165.7 million in July 2025, according to Maryland Lottery and Gaming. Both slots and table games recorded year-on-year declines.
The market comprises MGM National Harbor, in Prince George's County; Live! Casino & Hotel, in Anne Arundel County; Horseshoe Casino Baltimore; Ocean Downs Casino, in Worcester County; Hollywood Casino Perryville, in Cecil County; and Rocky Gap Casino Resort, in Allegany County.
MGM National Harbor and Live!, the state’s two largest properties, posted year-on-year declines, while Horseshoe Baltimore, Ocean Downs and Hollywood Perryville increased their revenue.
The casinos also contributed US$68.2 million to the state of Maryland, including US$49.9 million for the Education Trust Fund. Revenue also supports local communities, the horse racing industry and programs for small, minority- and women-owned businesses. Maryland Lottery and Gaming, headed by John Martin, oversees the casinos and their financial, regulatory, security and licensing procedures.
Ohio moved in the opposite direction. Its four land-based casinos — Hollywood Casino Columbus, Hollywood Casino Toledo, JACK Cleveland Casino and Hard Rock Casino Cincinnati — generated US$84.9 million in June, approximately 3% more year-on-year.
Slot machines generated US$62.8 million, while table games contributed US$22.1 million. Slot coin-in reached approximately US$830.3 million, with a 92.44% payout rate, while table games recorded nearly US$94.9 million in wagers.
The figures are reported by the Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC), headed by Executive Director Matthew Schuler, which is responsible for licensing, supervision, investigations and enforcement.
Ohio imposes a 33% tax on gross casino revenue, with proceeds distributed among counties, school districts, host cities and state programs, including problem gambling treatment.
