Lotteries in Colombia

During this week took place the Coljuegos event called "Talking with the Expert", 3 guests held a discussion on territorial games, better known as lotteries.

 

In which they reported the balance of the last 12 years in income of lotteries in Colombia has been a total of 5.5 billion pesos, with transfers to health for 1.5 billion pesos.

 

"Before this decade there were many lotteries that had to be liquidated, but we managed to stabilize this behavior with 15 lotteries in 15 departments that are still in force in the last 12 years. We have had some big challenges with the pandemic, last year the strikes hit us quite hard in the operative logistics, but we managed to solve these issues to comply with our responsibilities" assured Rocio Acosta.

 

To date and according to Acosta, president of Fedelco, there are no lotteries in liquidation process, there has not been any lottery in liquidation for more than 10 years. In fact, the Manizales Lottery is 100 years old, while the Quindío Lottery has been operating in Colombia for 50 years.

 

"We have to give performance as private companies, but with all the limitations of the public sector".

 

 

 

According to current regulations, lotteries in Colombia can only use 15% of total sales for marketing investment, sales and administrative expenses.  A limitation that makes them face very big challenges, but the new government has already raised its hand to see a flexibility in this sense.

 

For his part, Juan Carlos Restrepo, President of Asojuegos spoke about the Scratch and Win in Colombia, assuring that:

 

"The success has been based on how novel this system has been for a large part of the national territory, because somehow we had notions of this product with the famous scratch cards, but always in a legal controversy whether they could or could not operate this modality of game.  Also, it is a well-known product at international level that we had not had the opportunity to enjoy it in the country", said Restrepo.

 

In the first months it has exceeded all expectations. "We are on our way to extraordinary sales of well over 350 thousand million pesos (80 819 410 USD)", allowing it to become a very important contribution to public health resources.

 

Its commercialization is managed by 3 associations that cover the whole country, achieving more than 50 thousand points of sale, having presence in the 32 departments of the country.

 

It is worth noting that the prizes for this product range from recovering the investment of the carton up to 100 million pesos (23 091 USD).

 

 

Finally, the CNJSA informed that a new incentive will enter the market at the end of this month, which will operate in the Supergiros network, called Cash. Not many details were given on how it will operate. And it will be promoted by the secretary headed by Constanza Bejarano, betting and equestrian events.

 

Along with a digitalization of the national lotteries to compete and take away the market from the international lotteries, which are commercialized in the country but do not pay taxes.
