France bans Mexi Show and reshapes FDJ and PMU betting

Published date: 2026-07-30

France redesigned its regulated gambling offering through 18 decisions adopted on July 21, 2026, and published on July 24 by the Autorité nationale des jeux (ANJ).

The ANJ, chaired by Pascal Chèvremont since June 22 and managed by Director General Pauline Hot, rejected Mexi Show, an FDJ online lottery game scheduled for October 12.

It would have cost €5 and offered a 72% return-to-player rate, but its symbol-alignment mechanism was deemed similar to a slot machine.

FDJ, headed by Stéphane Pallez, had already reached the annual two-game limit for this type of mechanic with L’Héritage de Merlin and Nightmare of Hadès.

Emma’s Adventure was approved for online launch on November 9. It will cost €1, return 68% to players and include participation in Super Jackpot. Diamond River will launch through retail and online channels on January 4, 2027, with a €5 stake and 70% RTP.

From March 1, 2027, X10 will retain its €2 price, reduce its RTP from 68.5% to 68% and expand from two to three play areas. X20 will remain priced at €5, but its RTP will fall from 71% to 70%.

Loto Foot, Loto Rugby and Loto Basket will retain their €1 base stake and 70% RTP from June 2027. Loto Foot will introduce Option Boost, a 50% surcharge providing additional winnings and an extra prize tier.

PMU, led by Emmanuelle Malecaze-Doublet, will migrate nine retail bets to new servers in October; 2 sur 4 (€3), Pick 5 (€1), Couplé Gagnant (€2), Couplé Ordre (€2), Simple Gagnant (€2), Simple Placé (€2), Super 4 (€1), Trio Ordre (€2) and Trio (€2). Stakes and RTP rates will remain unchanged, while the last three products will separate their betting pools.

Following applications from Betclic, led by Julien Brun, the ANJ approved PFL main cards, five Ligue 3 promotion playoff matches and round-based golf markets. It rejected UFC Paris preliminary cards and hole-by-hole golf betting.

The regulator will activate new data-storage, encryption and traceability standards on November 30 and conditionally approved Casino Municipal d’Ajaccio’s responsible gambling plan. Three additional opinions covered the European Aquatics Championships and the horse-racing calendar from August 1 to December 31.
