Madrid makes responsible gambling the sector’s flagship cause

Published date: 2026-06-12

Spain’s regulated gaming industry will once again bring together operators, manufacturers, trade associations, compliance experts and institutional representatives at the VIII Responsible Gambling and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Awards, one of the sector’s most important initiatives for recognizing sustainability, consumer protection and social commitment projects. The ceremony will take place on June 30, 2026, at Madrid’s historic Teatro Real, while the jury will meet on June 15 following the official closing of nominations on June 10.

The event is once again supported by the Spanish Confederation of Bingo Gaming Business Organizations (CEJUEGO), along with numerous industry stakeholders that view responsible gambling as a cornerstone of the sector’s long-term sustainability. Eligible entries include online operators, casinos, bingo halls, gaming arcades, technology providers, associations, foundations and companies developing initiatives related to ESG, social inclusion, sustainability, employee wellbeing, responsible gambling, prevention programs and social innovation.

The importance of these awards has grown steadily over the years. Although their primary focus is Spain, the awards have gained international visibility through the participation of companies operating across Europe and Latin America, becoming one of the most prestigious Spanish-language recognitions for corporate responsibility within the gaming industry.

The 2025 edition further strengthened that reputation. Among the winners were CIRSA, named Company of the Year; Luckia Gaming Group for its public-private partnership initiative; Grecojoc, Merkur Dreams, Cofar, Admiral, the Flutter Foundation, Antonio Durán, and Grup Peralada. The ceremony also paid tribute to Miguel Suqué Mateu, Chairman of Grup Peralada and one of the most influential business leaders in Spanish gaming, while a special recognition was presented to José and Alfredo González Fuentes, the founders of Luckia.

One of the most notable projects was developed by Luckia, in partnership with the San Telmo Museum and the Kursaal Casino of San Sebastián. The cultural initiative attracted more than 40,000 visitors and demonstrated how regulated gaming can contribute to cultural preservation, community engagement and social development.

The 2026 jury includes Xavier Salvadó, Head of the Central Gaming and Entertainment Unit of the Mossos d'Esquadra; institutional representatives from the Autonomous City of Ceuta; Justo Velardos of Grupo COMAR; and gaming regulation specialist Enric Sanahuja. Their participation reinforces the institutional standing of awards designed to recognize organizations that promote a more transparent, sustainable and player-focused gaming industry.

At a time when Europe is increasing scrutiny of advertising practices, consumer protection, compliance standards and corporate sustainability, the Responsible Gambling and CSR Awards send a clear message: the future of legal gaming depends on combining economic growth with innovation, social responsibility and player protection. For operators, regulators and suppliers alike, these awards have become a benchmark for demonstrating commitment to society and to the highest standards of governance and responsible gaming.
