NORWAY BEGINS TARGETING SELECTED PAYMENT PROCESSORS

Norway’s banks began implementing an order to crack down on transfers between the country’s online gamblers and a select number of online payment-processing and gambling firms.

The order targeting the seven sites was accompanied by a brief statement from the director of Norway’s Lottery Authority, Linda Vøllestad Westbye (pictured), who claimed that all companies serving Norwegian companies and using the country’s online banking system’s frameworks to facilitate deposits and withdrawals is operating in violation of Norwegian law, the seven bank accounts include five entries for online payment processors who facilitate third-party transfers to gaming companies. “It does not matter what these gaming companies are called or how many they are. Anyone who uses such payment services abroad violates Norwegian law.” Added Westby-

The claim likely sets up another conflict between a European Union member country and the provisions of the EU’s cross-border trade agreements that allow for free trade within EU member countries. Four EU countries: France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal have already implemented their own single-jurisdiction firewalls and markets.
