Macau International Airport handled 3,896,692 passengers between January and June 2026, representing 7.9% year-on-year growth that strengthened connectivity to the world’s largest casino jurisdiction, although the downturn recorded since May raised concerns about tourism during the second half.

Monthly traffic reached 680,282 passengers in January, 716,963 in February, 720,175 in March, 666,416 in April, 587,778 in May and 525,078 in June. The first four months generated 2,783,836 movements, or 71.4% of the half-year total. May declined 0.4% year-on-year, while June fell 9.3%.

Concessionaire Macau International Airport Company Limited —CAM— also recorded 28,957 aircraft movements, up 2.3%. Founded on January 18, 1989, CAM holds the airport concession until 2039. The Macau government controls 67.87% of the company, while STDM, a shareholder in SJM, owns 28.32%.
Following the June 3 management election, Chui Sai Cheong chairs CAM’s board; Pansy Ho serves as vice chairwoman and Chan Weng Hong heads the Executive Committee. The Civil Aviation Authority is led by Pun Wa Kin.

The connection with casinos is direct, but not automatic. Macau welcomed 20,944,446 visitors during the half, up 9%; only 1.56 million arrived by air, accounting for 7.4%. International arrivals through the airport increased 15.9% to 292,426, a strategically important segment for hotels, entertainment and premium gaming.
Casinos generated MOP126.90 billion (US$15.77 billion) in gross gaming revenue, up 6.8%. However, June combined a 9.3% airport-passenger decline, a 9% fall in overnight visitors and a 12.1% GGR contraction to MOP18.52 billion.
The slowdown affects potential customer flows to Sands China, Galaxy Entertainment, SJM Resorts, Melco Resorts, Wynn Macau and MGM China. Oversight rests with the DICJ, led on an acting basis by Lio Chi Chong, under Secretary for Economy and Finance Ng Wai Han. CAM is still targeting 8.14 million passengers in 2026.
