The tourism milestone was confirmed by the Public Security Police Force (PSP), which is responsible for border controls. Between January and August, Macau received approximately 28.95 million visitors, averaging more than 119,000 arrivals per day, around 8% higher year-on-year.

Mainland China contributed 21.54 million visitors, up 10%, accounting for 74.4% of the total. Hong Kong recorded 4.87 million, down 1.8%; Taiwan reached 780,000, up 21.7%; and international markets generated 1.76 million arrivals, up 3.4%. The highest daily total of the year came on May 2, with around 247,000 arrivals.

The second key figure came from the Financial Services Bureau (DSF), led by Ho Silvestre In Mui. The MOP66.17 billion collected between January and August increased 6.9% and represented around 86.4% of current government revenue reported during the period.

In August alone, Macau collected MOP7.83 billion, around US$970 million, in gaming tax. The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), currently headed on an acting basis by Lio Chi Chong, also reported MOP21.89 billion, or US$2.71 billion, in GGR for August, down 1.2% year-on-year but up 8.1% from July. From January through August, cumulative GGR reached MOP169.05 billion, approximately US$20.95 billion, up 3.7%.

Macau applies a 35% special tax on GGR, while contractual contributions lift the effective burden to close to 40%. The 2026 gaming-tax revenue target is MOP92.53 billion, meaning around 71.5% of the annual goal had already been achieved by the end of August. Economic policy is overseen by Ng Wai Han, Secretary for Economy and Finance, while tourism promotion remains under Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office.
