HKJC contributes record US$5 billion to Hong Kong

Published date: 2026-09-04

The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) closed its 2025/26 financial year with a record community contribution of HK$39.3 billion, around US$5.01 billion, after handling HK$331.748 billion in betting and lottery turnover, an all-time high and 3.6% above the HK$320.261 billion recorded in the previous period.

The results, covering the financial year ended June 30, 2026, were presented following the Club’s Annual General Meeting on September 2. Of the total contribution, HK$29.313 billion came from betting duties and profits tax, HK$1.406 billion went to the Lotteries Fund, and HK$8.581 billion represented donations approved by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for 191 projects and organizations.

HKJC therefore contributed HK$30.719 billion directly to the Government, while its tax payments represented approximately 6.4% of all taxes collected by the Inland Revenue Department during the fiscal year. Horse-racing turnover reached HK$143.378 billion, up 3.6%, generating HK$19.9 billion in gaming revenue. International commingling reached HK$34.3 billion, up 9%, and accounted for 23.9% of racing wagering, with customers from 26 jurisdictions.

Football betting increased 3.6% to HK$178.998 billion, producing HK$22.6 billion in revenue, while Mark Six rose 4.2% to HK$9.372 billion. The Club also paid HK$2.4 billion under the Special Football Betting Duty. Hong Kong’s fiscal regime includes rates of up to 75% on racing betting, 50% on football betting and 25% on Mark Six.

Paul Chan Mo-po

HKJC continues to be led by Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges as CEO. Following the September 2 meeting, Martin Liao Cheung-kong was re-elected Chairman and Lester G. Huang Deputy Chairman. Hong Kong’s financial policy is headed by Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po, while the Inland Revenue Department administers betting duty and profits tax.

The growth coincided with 401,259 tourist visits to the racecourses, up 105%, while the Club continues to identify illegal gambling as its main strategic threat.
