The European Gaming & Betting Association, EGBA will transmit a Webinar about Online consumer protection: How to promote a safer internet in the EU this Thursday 20 October, 11.00 – 12.00 CEST
The internet is an integral part of everyday life for millions of European citizens. In 2021, 80% of people living in the EU used the internet on a daily basis. But as the internet and its use continues to grow and change our lives, often for the better, protecting consumers online has never been more important. In recent years, we have seen how the internet can be used to spread hate speech, share fake news, scam or defraud citizens, undermine privacy, or even harm kids.
The EU, for its part, has taken big leaps to regulate the online ecosystem
A failure to address citizens’ concerns about these topics will undermine trust in the internet and the European Digital Single Market overall.
While many companies have taken steps to improve safety on their online platforms, regulation of consumer protection online has often been inconsistent or fragmented.
