Codere’s bad hour is now among the most sanctioned in Spain.

Published date: 2024-11-21

The Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030 has sanctioned 15 operators in the online gambling and betting sector in Spain in the first half of the year, for serious or very serious violations of the Gambling Regulation Act (LRJ).

The fines, most of which were imposed on foreign companies, have totalled 65,325,000 million euros. Of the 15 resolutions issued by the General Directorate for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ), 13 have been classified as "very serious" and account for the majority of the amounts claimed by the ministry.

The liquidator leaves the value of the Codere shares in the hands of the minorities at zero.

In addition to the monetary sanctions, of 5 million euros each, the closure of the 13 web portals has been decreed for a period of two years. These are the cases of the companies Interactive Pro, Stars Cream, Loveca Sino, Rougeca Sino, Mountberg, Alimanieri, Goldenpharaoh, Goldenlion, Golden Genie, Bigwins Games Tech, Games & More, Gladiator Holding and R. Bostock Enterprises.

EY refuses to continue auditing Codere's accounts, they have expired.

According to the Consumer Affairs Office, all of them are foreign companies that operated without a license in Spain. Codere is in a bad situation due to its imminent exit from the Nasdaq, and these sanctions are added to this.

Codere is losing the bet in Mexico.

The two remaining infringements have been classified as “serious” and correspond to the betting houses Codere and Electraworks (which manages the portals bwin.es, partypoker.es and partycasino.com in Spain).

Serious infringements can be punished with fines of 100,000 to one million euros, as well as suspension of activity for a period of six months. In these cases, the total of the two sanctions amounts to a total of 325,000 euros.
