In a significant development for the Bay State's gaming landscape, Massachusetts lawmakers have introduced bills in both the House and Senate aiming to legalize online casino gaming. On January 17, 2025, Senator Paul Feeny and Representative Daniel Cahill filed SD 2240 and HD 4084, respectively, proposing the authorization of internet gaming licenses. These licenses would be available to the state's three existing brick-and-mortar casinos and up to four additional out-of-state operators.

This legislative initiative follows the successful legalization of online lottery games in Massachusetts in 2024, although the launch of the iLottery has been postponed until 2026.

The proposed bills outline a framework where the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) would oversee the issuance and regulation of online casino licenses. The MGC has previously managed the implementation of sports wagering in the state, following the signing of An Act to Regulate Sports Wagering by Governor Charlie Baker on August 10, 2022.
As of January 27, 2025, the MGC has not released an official statement regarding the newly proposed online casino legislation. Industry stakeholders and residents are encouraged to monitor the MGC's official website for updates and public notices concerning the progression of these bills.
