Macau’s gaming sector is bracing for a major surge, as tourism officials forecast over 700,000 visitors during the May 1 Golden Week holiday period. The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) confirmed projections that would bring daily arrivals to an average of over 100,000 visitors between April 27 and May 5. Hotel occupancy rates are expected to soar past 85%, with many luxury resorts already fully booked ahead of the critical Chinese holiday.

Casino operators are optimistic, expecting strong foot traffic to translate directly into higher gross gaming revenue (GGR), particularly within the premium-mass market segment, which has become Macau’s new cash cow. Industry analysts predict that GGR for May could spike by 15-20% compared to April, driven by mass-market players, affluent travelers, and family tourism spending.

If projections hold, May 2025 could mark Macau’s highest monthly GGR since the reopening of travel borders in 2023. Analysts note that casinos have shifted marketing strategies to emphasize entertainment, dining, and non-gaming attractions, broadening their appeal to a more diversified tourist base.

With over 85% of Golden Week travelers expected from mainland China, Macau's casino floors are poised for a packed and lucrative holiday stretch. The city's integrated resorts, betting tables, and slots are preparing for an "all-in" moment. Golden Week has always been a jackpot opportunity — and this year, Macau looks ready to deal itself a winning hand.
